The daffodil is the March birth flower. Also known as Jonquil or Narcissus and because of their long association with lent, the “Lent Lily”. Symbolic of new beginnings and re-birth they are majestic as a singular bloom and are truly grandiose assembled as a large congregation. The 18th century poet William Wordsworth captured their essence in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud:
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
The message trumpeted by the graceful daffodil is “You Are An Angel”, as in a host of golden angels. They are ever vigilant in their promise to return in the spring no matter the harshest of winters just past.
Bring a pot or a bouquet to an “angel” in your life. Someone that inspires faith and forthrightness and is a symbol of inner beauty in your life.
Happy Birthday March babies!
